From a barrier in the city to a meaningful place of connection.
The vision for Roermondplein offers spatial opportunities for the city of Arnhem in terms of accessibility, climate adaptation, socio-economic developments and the major housing task. The infrastructure does not seem the most obvious place for the development of homes and facilities. It forms
currently a barrier in the city with noise and safety challenges due to freight transport.
The vision transforms the infrastructure into a pleasant destination and connects existing neighborhoods to a new sustainable city of a high standard.
How to transform the infrastructure into public space and being a connector between different parts of the city?
A place that invites you to: meet, move, stay healthy, sport, learn and connect.
A compact, flexible urban living environment combined with a milieu of mixed-use spaces.
An elevated linear park, greenway programmed, and pedestrian-friendly that facilitate social interation. The green-line is linked with the green belt (Singel). Plant species, rain gardens, and street plantings will cool the city, reduce air pollution, store carbon, buffer noise, enhance recreational activities, improve mental health.
CONNECTION TO THE CITY AND TO THE PROMENADE
Multifunctional hub that facilitate the switch to other forms of transport, with the aim to keep the city centre car free.
Lively waterfront connected to the green line and to the city.
Program as commercial, shared facilities, public spaces, coworking and exhibition spaces are located at the level of the blue waves.
